Stroke
A
stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted (ischemic
stroke) or when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures (hemorrhagic
stroke). Both can cause the death of brain cells in the affected
areas. Stroke is also considered a neurological disorder because
of the many complications it causes. Other forms of cardiovascular
disease, such as high blood pressure, increase your risk of
stroke.
Symptoms
of stroke
* Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg (especially
on one side of the body)
* Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding speech
* Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
* Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
* Sudden severe headache with no known cause
If
you have any of these symptoms, you must get to a hospital quickly
to begin treatment.
